2026 Iris Awards Categories

The 2026 NZIPP Iris Awards encompasses 15 categories that we’ve listed below.

There is no longer a limit on the number of entries you can enter but only the TEN highest-scoring images will count towards NZIPP Honours Distinctions for those who are eligible to earn Distinction points.

There is also no longer any restrictions on WHEN the image was captured (as long as you have not previously entered the image into the Iris Awards).

You need a minimum of 3 entries within a category to be in contention to be a category finalist. The top 3 images from the top 3 highest scoring entrants in the category for New Zealand, and Australia, will be the category finalists. A minimum number of eligible Australian finalist are required in order to name a Australian category winner.

You need a minimum of 6 entries across any category to be in contention to be a finalist for Photographer of the Year. The top 6 images from the top 3 highest scoring entrants overall for New Zealand, and Australia, will be the Photographer of the Year finalists. A minimum number of eligible Australian finalist are required in order to name a Australian Photographer of the Year.
