NZ Creative Photographer of the Year


Photographs which a photographer would intend to include in their portfolio. The Creative Category recognises photographers who have skills in several areas, or who may not wish to specialise in one genre.
Entries may be commissioned or self-commissioned;
Includes wall art and exhibition work;
Entries may explore a range of contemporary and historical approaches and processes;
An entry may be presented as a series, such as diptychs, triptychs, etc;
While this category caters for a wide range of work, it still has to be photographic-based. Mixed-media work should go in the Expressive Category;
Except where specified as permitted above, entries must comply with all rules, entry terms & conditions, and the Open – Composite entry criteria;
When naming your entry, use the Category Code – CR.



Permitted post-production techniques:
All forms of post-production
Composite images
Textures and borders (100% photographic)
Use of entrant-created presets and/or third-party presets/plugins, such as, Nik, Luminar, etc.

Permitted camera techniques:
All forms of in-camera techniques including any form of multiple exposure.

Third-party bought or downloaded digital backdrops are not permitted;
Third-party backdrops with identifiable elements created or sold for the purpose of being photographed are not allowed;
Excludes the use of computer generated elements, (eg. where the computer automatically renders an element such as a person, landscape, sky or other item that the camera did not capture).
